IUSM received a grant from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation to establish a chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. By encouraging the creation of chapters in medical schools around the country, The Gold Foundation seeks to honor senior medical students, residents, role-model physician teachers and other exemplars who demonstrate excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service.
The Indiana University School of Medicine chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) was established as a means of formally recognizing medical students who demonstrate exemplary behavior that promotes humanism in medicine.
Approximately 15% of the graduating class are selected through a process including peer and faculty nomination followed by a review of each student's required essays, clerkship comments and record of community service.
